How we classify halal status
Halal Checker UK aims to provide transparent information about whether a restaurant is halal. Our labels are intended as a guide, not a religious ruling. Always use your own judgement and contact the restaurant directly if you are unsure.
Status definitions
- Halal Certified
- The restaurant has been verified as halal certified by a recognised certification body (for example HMC, HFA or a local council scheme). We rely on documentation provided by the restaurant and/or the certifier. Certificates may expire, so please always check the latest information.
- Halal Claimed
- The restaurant itself states that it serves halal food, but we do not currently hold independent certification for the listing. This may be based on information from the restaurant's website, menu, signage or direct communication.
- Non-Halal
- The restaurant is known to serve non-halal items, such as pork or non-halal meat, or has clearly indicated that it does not offer halal options. This may also apply where alcohol is a primary focus of the venue.
- Unknown
- We do not yet have enough information about this restaurant's halal status. Community submissions, owner claims and reports help us update these listings over time.
How statuses can change
Statuses can change when we receive new evidence, such as updated certificates, owner-provided information, or credible reports from users. Only Halal Checker UK admins can change a restaurant's official status in the directory.
If you own a restaurant and believe your listing is incorrect, you can claim the listing, submit an update request, and provide proof such as certification links or other documentation. Users can also submit reports if they spot inconsistencies.
